Logan Square, Reimagined Tour in Partnership with The ITE Illinois SEction

  • Reno 2607 North Milwaukee Avenue Chicago, IL, 60647 United States (map)

Transport Chicago is partnering with the ITE Illinois Section for this one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore Logan Square!

In 2011, neighbors in the Logan Square community developed a plan for a reimagined Logan Square circle. Their plan, called the Bicentennial Plan in honor of the State of Illinois’ bicentennial, imagined a new public plaza where Kedzie Avenue used to stand, removing Milwaukee Avenue through the circle, and improving bicycle and pedestrian facilities. In the Fall of 2025, after countless conversations, hours of planning and engineering, and many problems overcome, CDOT opened the reimagined Logan Square. CDOT and lead engineering consultant Jacobs are proud to present the results of this once-in-a-generation project.

This presentation will walk through the complex design process, key decisions made during the project, and—best of all!—a showcase of what the project looks like today. We’ll discuss key victories, such as improved walking access to the Square, compromises, and next steps. It is our hope that, by understanding the thought process behind this design, participants can grasp the project's complexities and apply lessons we learned to their own practice.

An understanding of the key decisions and compromises that informed the design of the Reimagined Logan Square. We will explore crosswalk locations, on- and off-street bike facilities, bike signal timing, plaza layouts, and more. Planners and engineers should come away with a better understanding of how to balance competing modes in a constrained space.

Tickets are just $10 and include happy-hour hors d'oeuvres! Cash bar available.

This event takes place rain or shine and is accessible to all! Please reach out to Em Hall if with any accommodation needs or dietary restrictions.
